简介：EricBraedenstarsasDr.CharlesForbin,whohascreatedasupercomputernamedColossus,builtsolelyforthepurposeofcontrollingthenucleardefensesoftheWesternalliance.Itisnttoolongafter,however,thattheRussiansannouncethattheytoohavebuiltasimilarcomputerforthosesamepurposesontheirside--Guardian.Andwhenthetwomachinesbeginsharinginformationataspeednobodycanbelieve,anattemptismadetodisablethem.Thisunfortunatelyjustraisesthemachinesire;andinretaliation,theylaunchtheirweaponsateachothershomenations.Theresultisachillingscenariothatispotentiallybecomingalltoorealthesedays.COLOSSUS:THEFORBINPROJECTwasnotabighitattheboxofficeforvariousreasons.Oneisthatitscastwasntexactlywellknown.Anotherreasonisthatitsendingisntexactlyahappyone.StillathirdreasonisthatUniversalhadtroubletryingtopromoteitinthewakeofthehugesuccessofStanleyKubricks2001:ASPACEODYSSEY.Thelatterreasonisobvious:ColossusandGuardian,likeHALintheKubrickmovie,becomecentralcharactershere.ThedifferencehereisthatwhileHALmalfunctionsduetoaprogrammingconflict,ColossusandGuardianremainalltoostable,convincedbeyondadoubtthattheyknowhowtoprotectMankindbetterthanManhimself.Asthecomputerspointout:"OneinevitableruleisthatMankindishisownworstenemy."JosephSargentsdirectionisefficient,andthespecialeffectsworkofAlbertWhitlockstillmanagestoworkdespiteitsobviousage.Anoverlookedgeminthesci-figenre,thisshouldbegivenarevival.
